Travel From Taipei To Hualien

  • Looking for information on how to move or travel from Taipei to Hualien? You are in the right place as today I am going to share my amazing race experience on boarding different transportation available on the planet to reach Hualien from Kuala Lumpur.

My journey starts in 10am by departing from Kuala Lumpur LCCT and fly 3214 km to Taipei via Air Asia X for RM358 a way.

You should able to get ticket cheaper than RM358 especially during the Air Asia promotion period :D

The 2 hour and 40 minutes flight lands on Tao Yuan International Aiport and we bought bus ticket for 30NTD per person to bring us to HSR (High Speed Rail) station.

The journey from Tao Yuan International Airport to the HSR station is around 30 minutes via bus transport.

    HSR To Taipei Train Station

Here I am in the HSR station and we bought the ticket for 160NTD per person in order to reach Taipei train station within 20 minutes.

Initially we plan to stop at Banciao instead of Taipei to take train to Hualien, but the staff who sold us the ticket advise us to stop at Taipei train station as the train schedule is more over there.

Did you ask me if there’s flight from Taipei to Hualien? Sure there is but you can’t get any from Tao Yuan International Airport but from Taipei International Airport.

I know this from Hualien County Driver and it will cost you around 2000 NTD to fly you to Hualien in 40 minutes time :D

    Taipei Train To Hualien

When we reach Taipei train station around 4pm, we felt lucky to follow the HSR staff’s piece of advice as we found there’s lots of train schedule to Hualien.

But not a good news when we found there’s no more available seating ticket until 8pm at night.

We knew the train needs 2 hours and 40 minute time to reach Hualien and we knew that it will be hell late at night :D

So when we saw there’s available ‘standing’ ticket on screen, we SNAP! it immediately without question :D

The ‘standing’ train ticket to Hualien cost 441 NTD per person and we book our transport link on Friday peak hour.

So what’s this ‘standing’ ticket means? If you can find a seat at first then today is your lucky day.

The train will stop in few station and if there’s any new passenger on board bought the seat you are borrowing right now, then you have to move away :D

We switch several seat at first as there’s new passengers on board bought the seat, felt embarrassed to borrow seat not belongs to me ;)

Funny thing is we found the best seat in the train at last on the back corner with worry free.

Feel so good to have a seat back then and Giraffe and I discovered that there’s better way to reach Taipei train station from Tao Yuan International Airport :D

Instead of switching two different transport bus (30 NTD) and HSR (160NTD) as mentioned earlier, you can take bus (国光号) from Tao Yuan International Airport to Taipei train station with the cost 125 NTD for 50 minute journey.

Travel from Kuala Lumpur – Taipei – Hualien cost us around RM430 with the routing summary as below.

    • Travel 3214 km from Kuala Lumpur to Taipei via Air Asia X
    • Travel 232 km from Taipei To Hualien via Bus, High Speed Rail and Train

Okay, the journey to the heart of Taiwan will continue with interesting places and good foods monkey tarzan

It seems like I can not get to any website that allows me to book/buy train tickets from Taipei/Hualien and back. You see, my husband and I will be travelling to Taipei on Sept. 18 and we plan to visit Hualien (Taroko Gorge, etc.) on Sept. 20 staying only for a night. Can someone pls. help me find where to buy train tickets online?
