It is even cooler than Genting Highlands and with fresh air :D21 hours record is not poor, it just an average timing for first climbing. You did it good and the most important part is you reach the peak :)You might think this is the last climb but I bet you will miss Mt. Kinabalu after a year which most of my fellow climbers do. LOL :DCheers ;)

Hi Caryl,

Good to hear that you pick the right choice to stay in Mesilau, I named it as the Heaven In Malaysia. TIRING!!Before started to climb, we put a night staying in Mesilau Nature Resort - this resort absolutely beautiful, awesome!! Love the surroundings. Weather freezing cold as it was raining season. We started off next morningg and reach Laban Rata very late (again the last group as we took 9.5hrs) due to raining at 4KM+ till Laban Rata. Very tiring, wet and exhausted. However thankfully climbing midnight to summit rain stopped and sunrise was the greatest moments!! Upon reaching South Peak 8KM I totally given up, snapping pics all the way, and then I tot to myself...how could I give up since only 700M to the Low's Peak :)) I push myself and keep on going - I was the last to reach Low's Peak at about 7AM while everybody descending already haha...nevertheless I DID IT!! So Proud of myself! Well, thx for all the great tips thus making my entire trip adventurous and mentally ready!! However, I Salute to u for making it 3times. I won't be going again I bet as this will be First & LAST haha....I did enjoyed the experiences very much and Miracle for me tho!!! :)Cheers!

Hi Ah Hong,

Just to share my joy, I have completed my expedition to Mt Kinabalu YES I did it…although the LAST haha….it took me total of 21 hours (2days) to complete the whole expedition! You need the winter clothing, when you are climbing from Laban Rata to the peak of Mt. Kinabalu. Usually what I do and advise the other climbers to do was, give your winter clothing and stuff like torch light to potter (the person who carries your stuff by you need to pay him/her) before you start your journey from Mesilau trail. You just bring enough food, drinks, disposable raincoat, towel and sweater. When you climb towards Laban Rata, you will feel colder from time to time (temperature like Genting Highlands) :D You won't able to find "Adidas Kampung" in KL, it was only produced in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Ask your transporter, he will know where to buy along the road from Kota Kinabalu to Mount Kinabalu. Don't give up and the wonderful view from the peak awaits you :)

Hi Caryl,

Maybe let me elaborate more in details on the clothing. Don't keep on stop and rest; it will break your rhythm. I advise all my climbers, 45mins climb n 5-10 minutes break. Make sure you assign you member in pair, 1 girl with 1 guy. Don't stick too much in a group; it will break your rhythm when you see other people taking a break. For shoes, usually i buy Adidas Kampung when reach there (I did have a standby Nike shoes just in case i can't find suitable size). Adidas Kampung was water proof and quite durable with cheap price < rm 15 if not mistaken. For clothing, make sure you have wind breaker or sweater when climbing from Mesilau. I guess November will be quite cold due to rainy season. Just prepare additional clothes as standby in case your clothes wet. Remember to bring disposable raincoat ya ;)Hope you enjoy the climbing. Remember, don't give up. Let me know if you have any other question ;)

Hi Caryl,

Good to hear that you using Mesilau trail

For non-sportive people, is possible to reach the peak and just make sure you just go on without giving up. Trying to share as much I can though :D I hope you have booked all the accommodation for Nov-09, because it's really hard to get a booking nowadays. For the things that you need to prepare right, please refer to the itinerary as attached. 1st advice - Bring disposable raincoat (one for each person, and extra will be better) as it will be rainy season during Sep-Dec in Sabah :D 2nd advice - You can rent for 'tongkat' stick which will help to reduce tension on your ankle while climbing. 3rd advice - Try to prepare and start the climb from Mesilau/Timpohon as early as possible. Usually the gate will open around 8am :). You should reach there earlier to do registration. 4th advice - Food and water, the weight should be balance with the necessity. I love carry Ribena and 100 plus, because it gives me real boost than mineral water. Try to carry some chocolate too and energy bar (consume bit by bit) :D I was hoping that you stay in Mesilau and climb up using Mesilau trail, just like what I mentioned in my blog. Is the truly heaven in Malaysia :D

Hi Caryl,

Thanks for reading my blog.
