Shakadang Trail In Taroko National Park

  • Taroko National Park was one of the world heritage you should visit in Hualien, Taiwan. Shakadang trail was one of my favorable Taroko destination after 20 minutes drive from Qingshui Cliff.

Previously Shakadang Trail was known as Mysterious Valley Trail and it was renamed to Shakadang Trail in year 2001 :)

    Shakadang Trail

Shakadang has natural scenic beauty to offer and I love the deep blue marble water flowing in the first curve of trail.

The best time to visit was on the month of May when the Tung tree flowers bloom making the trail with flowers filling the air like snow flakes :)

Let me explain the history of Shakadang trail to you by reading from the travel information board :D

Originating from Shakadang River nearby Siaosing Mountain, the Shakadang River Valley strectches toware the Liwu River near Taroko.

With a total length of 16.65km, it used to be an important venue along the Shakadang River where the Taroko people held their traditional activities.

The Shakadang trail was established by the Japanese in later phase for the construction of the Liwu Power Plant. This trail goes through Wujianwu and Sanjianwu which were formerly part of the Huhus tribe.

The Shakadang trail runs for 4.5km and takes 4 hours to cover back and forth by walking. This is the best route to explore the living past of the Taroko people.

    Trail exploration:

    • Trailhead to Large Observation Platform (round trip 2.2km/estimated time about 1 hour and 20 minutes)
    • Trailhead to 5D Cabin, Wujianwu (round trip 3km/estimated time for about 1 hour and 30 minutes)
    • Trailhead to 3D Cabin, Sanjianwu (round trip 9km/estimated time for about 2 to 4 hours)

We just managed to walk back and forth half of the trail in order to save times for other famous spot in Taroko.

You shouldn’t miss a visit to Shakadang Trail if you are going to Taroko National Park tomorrow :D

The Taroko travelogue will continue with Changchun Eternal Spring Shine.
