Many people have asked us how we got the name ‘Bebek Bengil’, well here’s the story…
When we were building the restaurant, we thought of long and hard about a name. Many good suggestions came from our friends but none seems just right.
We knew we wanted a Balinese name that translated well into English. However, for a long time the metaphor eluded us.
One tropical monsoon morning, when the restaurant setup was very close to being finished, a flock of ducks from the rice field across the road ran quacking and squawking into the restaurant and across floor and tables.
They left muddy webbed footprints all over the place. They were our first guests – those ‘Dirty Ducks’

Bebek Bengil, the original crispy duck since 1990. Half a duck steamed in Indonesia spices and deep fried for a crispy finish. Served with sauteed potatoes and side salad or rice & Balinese vegetables.
The taste looks promising with the price of 68,000 Indonesia Rupiah. A ‘must try’ crispy fried duck with crusty skin and bone.
You can even chew and swallow the whole wing without any hesitation. For any duck hater, you must try this Bebek Bengil in Ubud 🙂
Besides we ordered Pepes Ikan Bumbu Bali, one of the Balinese food with recipe by Ibu Agung Raka Sueni for 67,000 Indonesia Rupiah. Salty and not recommend.
Bebek Bengil is still the best of all. If you want to try it out, remember to call in for booking one day in advance 🙂
